Minister Montague Leaves for Asia Visits Korea to Strengthen LAMP Titling Systems and Meets with Chinese Vice President at UNCTAD World Conference in China
Jamaica’s Land Administration and Management Programme (LAMP) is set to get an additional boost on new technologies and practices to aid the preparation and distribution of land titling in Jamaica as Minister with responsibility for Local Government and Chairman of the LAMP programme heads a delegation to Korea to participate in negotiations for upgrading the system. Minister Montague is being accompanied by CEO Garfield Knight of GeoLand Ltd. the local representatives of the Korean Cadastral Mapping and Land Administration Company that provides the cadastral mapping system to enable the efficient, tracking and streamlining of titles to landowners. The team which is being sponsored by the Korean company will be in Korea from August 26 to September 5, 2010. The LAMP programme is an initiative by the government to assist landowners with registered land titles. In addition, Minister Montague and Speaker of the House Hon. Delroy Chuck will be official guests of the Chinese Government when they attend the United Nations sponsored World Investment Forum on sustainable development, in Xiamen, China from September 6-9, 2010. Both government officials will meet with Vice President Xi Jinping during their visit. The UNCTAD forum is designed to provide opportunities and a strengthened platform for global leaders to interact and exchange dialogue on how investment can foster sustainable development as well as revisiting the Millennium Development Goals and addressing sovereign lending and borrowing . The conference is intended to be the starting point for an international dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations to work towards an internationally agreed set of responsible principles. This leg of the trip is also sponsored. Minister Montague returns to the island on September 13, 2010. |
